IT283_Unit_2_Assignment.docx Part 1 1.IPv4 The Type of Service function in IPv4 has two components, precedence which is the first three bits and is used to prioritize traffic that goes through router queues. And the second component is the Type of Service which is the next 4 bits and is used by routers to follow a specified path type. Time to Live or TTL is the remaining distance that a packet can travel. The values are either 32, 64, 128, with the maximum being 255. There are a lot of factors that can allow for the minimum or maximum TTL to be less than 32 or greater than 255, is using fiber optic cables it will make the minimum hops much less but If transferring data over a satellite link it will almost always be greater than 4 seconds. The protocol field is used in an IPv4 header to identify what is coming next. The header checksum field is used to detect errors within the IP header only. It is a requirement for packets that have to pass through a router. The Options field is used to extend the header with options but is not used often. They must end on a 4-byte boundary because the internet header length defines all header length in 4-byte boundaries. The main reason for the option field is to provide additional IP routing controls or to record the route individual packets take between sender and receiver. 2.IPv6 The traffic class in IPv6 is used by the network host and the forwarding routers to distinguish classes or the priorities in IPv6 packets. It allows packets to be classified at delay se
