The reason for this question is rather simple. Inadequate equipment or outdated equipment can lead to a network slowdown. From firsthand experience routers unable to handle the network load can cause issues with dropped devices and network slowdowns. Cable boxes that are not able to handle the connection speed provided by the ISP is another issue that I have seen firsthand with my own network. Making sure the network is being ran on the right equipment with the proper firmware updates is one very important first step to check. Question Two: What antivirus and antimalware software is being used and has it been updated and ran? It goes without saying that viruses and malware can cause serious network issues as well as slowdowns. Question Three: What is the network layout? I would ask for a diagram of the network layout to check cabling and WIFI coverage. Cabling could be an issue as a bad cable could cause network issues. The layout could be very problematic as the WIFI coverage map could be very poorly mapped out causing disconnects and network slowdowns. 2. List tools to use. I could check equipment issues with the traceroute command. This will allow me to track down where the network might be experiencing issues and what deceives are not receiving any communication.
