A.Potential Challenges My instructional setting, at Douglas MacArthur High School, where I teach grade 10 English for both general and honors learners, is riddled with students from mostly low-income, single parent households. On most days, it is a struggle for me to expect my students to come to my second year English class, prepared, with the proper books, pencils, and paper. There are many challenges that teachers can face within their instructional settings. Teachers must learn to navigate through these challenges in order to have successful students. One common challenge that can greatly affect a students ability to learn can be the students motivation, or lack thereof, to learn. Within my own instructional setting, the social and behavioral challenges/needs of students are what affects their motivation the most. According to promoteprevent.org, children and youth face a number of risks to their social, behavioral, and emotional health - poverty being one of them.
