IYT2 Task 2 -Student Needs Analysis Angelica Brown.docx Introduction to Curriculum Theory, Task Two Western Governors University Introduction My current classroom instructional setting is a first-grade classroom of twenty-two students. My class is comprised of twelve girls and ten boys. Of my 22 students, one is a selective mute and has an IEP for reading/writing and one student has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for speech services which impede her learning and ability to communicate effectively. I also have two young students that frequently demonstrate behaviors of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). My school is in a very wealthy community in Las Vegas, Nevada. I teach all subjects daily including Math, Reading, Language, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. Potential Challenges Challenges in education are inevitable. The beginning of the school year brings about the challenge of learning about your new group of students, assessing their needs, and delivering the instruction they need in a way that is relevant to them. The middle of the school year is challenging because you are assessing what youve taught and looking forward to what is still left to cover in the school year. Towards the end of the school year the pressure is on to cram in as many lessons as possible for students to show growth on end of the year proficiency assessments and fill in any gaps.
