IYT2 Task 1.docx IYT2 TASK 1: IDEOLOGY EVALUATION A.Key Elements Social Reconstruction Educators who promote the Social Reconstruction ideology view curriculum from a social perspective (Schiro). Social reconstruction ideology assumes that a society is unhealthy due to the social problems that go unsolved. When looking at my instructional setting, the problems that occur can cause one to believe that our societys survival is threatened. The number of students in poverty, high crime rates, and the high levels of illiteracy passed down through generations riddled with lack of parental involvement suggest a society in distress. With the assumption that a society is in trouble when social problems go unsolved, social reconstructionists believe that society can be saved through education and curriculum used within the educational system. This belief can render valuable in my instructional setting when looking at the curriculum taught through Character Strong. This curriculum uses the vision of a healthier society that teaches students the importance of being respectful, responsible characters in their community.
