C304 Task 1 The nursing theory that has influenced my values and goals is the theory of dignity    C304 Task 1  C304 Task 1 The nursing theory that has influenced my values and goals is the theory of dignity in dying pioneered by Florence Wald.  1.In current nursing practice hospice and palliative care are just as important to nursing as other focuses of nursing.  We are aware this is a very difficult part of the life cycle not only for the patient but also for their family and we strive to make it as stress free as possible. End of life care is taught in nursing curriculum and we have developed plans and organizations whose focus is on making the last transition in the life cycle less traumatic for all involved  2.Through my experience as a nurse I have seen many deaths.  I have come to realize that when handled correctly and with as much dignity as possible, death can be a beautiful thing. Through my readings of the life of Florence Wald, my own beliefs on the importance of upholding dignity for the dying patient have been strengthened.  Her teachings have helped me improved my interactions with family members and fellow staff members also during that stressful time.  A.Florence Wald and Vernice Doris Ferguson are two historical figures in nursing.  Florence Wald saw a problem with how dying patients were treated post World War II and worked hard to change the way dying. (Adams, 2010) Vernice Doris Ferguson fought for increased respect and more opportunities for nurses.  She also advocated for excellence in nursing.
