C304Task1.docx    C304 Task 1  Western Governor's University  C304 Task 1  A.Identify a nursing theory that has influenced your values and goals.   Answer:   I identify with Dorothy Orems Self Care Deficit Nursing Theory.  1.Explain how nurses apply the identified theory from part A to implement excellent nursing practices.  Answer:   This theory applies to all nursing practices because nursing is about getting your patients back to where they were, or as close as possible, before they needed health care. “According to Orem, nursing is required when an adult is incapable or limited in the provision of continuous, effective self-care.” ("Orems self-care deficit nursing theory," n.d., p. 6)   I found this quote also, “The central philosophy of the Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory is that all patients want to care for themselves, and they are able to recover more quickly and holistically by performing their own self-care as much as theyre able.” ("Dorthea Orem - Nursing Theorist," n.d., para. 3) I can attest to this having recently been hospitalized. I can say that being at home was better for me than my night in the hospital. Doing things on my own, in my home, gave me a sense that I was getting better, opposed to being “sick” because I was in the hospital. Getting patients back to controlling their own environment is key to getting better.
