This paper aims to discuss the difference between perimeter and internal controls, what constitutes and defense-in-depth strategy, and how these security controls are tested and verified. To begin with, it is important to understand the difference between perimeter controls and internal controls. For a physical space, a perimeter control would include such examples as fences, walls, barbed or concertina wire, and fiber optic cables to name a few.
