Many factors need to be considered when deciding an appropriate dosage form in pediatric patients. If swallowing is not an issue, then the oral route is always the most preferred if the mediation can be administered in that form. In situations where a medication needs to be rapidly absorbed or swallowing is an issue then the parental route would be most appropriate. This holds the same for adult patients as well.
