As the name suggests, a conceptual model is simply a concept for the physical database being created andis used in the planning phase. When designing a conceptual database for a family reunion, the data is modeled in the form of an entity relationship. The entity in this example would be the people attending. Attributes are characteristics of an entity. For example, when collecting data for what kind of shirt someone would need, the person attending the reunion would be the entity and their shirt size or color would be the attribute. While working on a conceptual model, understanding the relationships between entities and attributes is crucial.If these relationships are not clear, then the data will not report correctly when queried. Relationships in a table are either one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many (Harrington, 2016). A primary key-foreign key relationship describes a one-to-many relationship between two tables in a relational database (Primary Key-Foreign Key Relationships, 2004).
