My name is Erin Prince. We are so excited to have you join our team. Today we will be discussing how our healthcare system uses Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators and their importance. We will provide an example of one of the indicators and its importance in the improvement of healthcare outcomes for our patients. Finally, we will review the processes in place to collect and distribute data regarding quality indicators.  National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) is a database that measures nursing quality. The mission statement of the NDNQI is “NDNQIs mission is to aid the registered nurse in patient safety and quality improvement efforts by providing research-based national comparative data on nursing care and the relationship to patient outcomes,” Created in  1998 as a part of the Safety and Quality Initiative, the NCNQI has the goal to provide comparative data nationally and to develop and display data regarding the relationship between patient outcomes and nurse staffing. Participants include hospitals from each of the 50 states in the United States as well as some hospitals in other countries.
