Although Christina has one goal: patient care and improving their health, she did not take the time to hear her coworkers' concerns. Anna and Faith disagreed with Christina on elevating the beds. Still, she also did not consider that they were concerned with following the hospitals' policies and procedures to implement something new. The definition of Emotional Intelligence is the ability to be aware of, control, and express your emotions and to handle your relationships with awareness and empathy (Codier et al., 2017). A person holding these skills in the organization is vital for both stakeholders and patients. Peter Salovay and John Mayer developed the constructs for emotional Intelligence in the 1980s, Daniel Goleman, author, improved on their outline for emotional Intelligence (Daft, 2017). His belief lists five models of emotional Intelligence, and they are: ï‚·Self-regulation “ is the ability to contain and change emotional impulsivity. It is the ability to control judgment and interrupt your thoughts (Goleman, 2017).
