Argument_prep_worksheet.docx  English 111-OJI1  Paper One Prep  For my paper I will be using the question œAre athletes overpaid?.  My answer to this question is yes, they are overpaid.  I want to write about this topic because I have very strong feelings about this subject and believe that they should not be paid nearly as much as they are paid.  Yes, they worked hard, most of the time, to play professional sports.  However, this does not mean they should be paid millions of dollars.  They should not be paid more than nurses, paramedics, law enforcement and doctors.  Medical and law enforcement careers put themselves in true harms way each and every day and save lives using skills they paid large amounts of money to obtain through college degrees.  Athletes do not go to college to get degrees to learn to play sports, they do not save lives by playing these sports and they are not in mortal danger each and every day.  Yes, they are in danger of concussions and injuries from playing the sport.  This does not explain the enormous amount of money they are paid.  Some say that they get paid this much because their careers are so short so it makes up for the income they will not make when they retire in their 30™s.  My argument for this is that they know this when getting into professional sports, they need to have a back up plan and a college education to be able to support themselves after retirement from the sport.   My intended audience is the general public, my professor, and the other students.
