In todays society, regardless of your stance on video game violence, we cannot overlook the current statistics that adolescent suicide and mental health issues are at an all-time high. Many studies have shown that violent video games have adverse effects on children and adolescents. Some studies have shown that violent video games have affected how the brain has functioned over time. Children in todays generation start playing violent video games at younger ages than before. Some common problems that we often see are difficulty sleeping, changed behaviors, and increased or peculiar interest in the real-life equivalent of the weapons used in the video game. Arguments Based on current research and data, it is my belief that video game violence is directly linked to changed behaviors in adolescents. This paper will focus on my top three selections based on this information. Firstly, there was noted to be a significant impact on sleep patterns associated with video game violence. Greater time spent playing mature-rated video games was associated with greater somatic complaints (IRR = 1.041), aggressive behavior (IRR = 1.039), and reduced sleep duration (IRR = .938).
