A bigger issue that I see is the war that is not being fought for our youth through the medical system. Athletes are prescribed narcotics to combat pain instead of given adequate resources before prescriptions are administered. Narcotics sometimes are labeled a gateway drug and when this pertains to our youth, the future of our civilization there needs to be a better system to guide them.   Identifying Hypothesis  On an ordinary day, any given high school student can be on their way to stardom through a sport they excel at but once an injury occurs that can all change. From the all-star football player to a head cheerleader, injuries can affect the rest of their lives. This leads me into the tightening ramifications on physicians prescribing pain killers to minors. There also needs to be steps that are used before narcotics are even considered to minors. In young adults between the ages of twelve to seventeen, this age group had a 4.9 percent chance at abusing nonmedical prescribed drugs in 2017 (NIDA, 2020). The two prescription drugs I would like to focus on is Adderall and Vicodin because these two have a very real grip on our youth when it comes to academics.
