The Nursing Programs Conceptual Model describes three of these roles. Nurses must be a detective, a scientist, and a manager of the healing environment. These roles are deep seeded in every nurse and ensures that the patient remains in the center of their care (Western Governors University, 2013).  Nurse as Detective  Nurses have a way of noticing changes in a patients condition before anyone else does by being a detective. We investigate for clues, gather up all the information, and put it all together to get the full picture all within a timely manner. Being the frontline of healthcare using evidenced based care is vital. A major part of collecting all of the information is having open communication with not only the patient but with the patients family and anyone involved in the patients care. Many times, family or friends can give you information the patient may have forgotten to tell the nurse. Being aware of the patients facial expressions and body language is a nonverbal clue that can help the nurse figure out if the patient is feeling something other than what they are saying. This could make an enormous difference.
