The rise of eating disorders has been attributed to several factors including the increasing global westernization, advances in technology, cultural shifts, and the change of ideas on what the ideal body shape size should be. The National Eating Disorder Association reports that 70 million people distributed between males and females suffer from eating disorders. Among the most common easting disorders facing the world include anorexia, binge eating disorder, bulimia, among others. Anorexia, which is the most common eating disorder, affects between 0.3 and 0.4 percent of young women and 0.1 percent of young men in America suffer from anorexia at any given time.   Eating disorders have been associated with several negative effects on the affected people. Besides the health impacts, the affected people also suffer from self-esteem issue. However, how the two are related has never been fully answered through an empirical research. Inevitably, the discussion on eating disorders and self-esteem leads to a conundrum like the chicken and egg conundrum, which came first. On hand, it could be argued that poor eating disorder could lead to low self-esteem. On the other hand, some can argue that eating disorders leads to low self-esteem. Even though there is no simple answer to the question on the relationship between eating disorders
