Families that experience homelessness have different situations. This means that all of them have reasons which make them live a life without a shelter. The causes of this problem are an interplay structural factors as well as system failures. The causes of homelessness include structural factors which include the economic and societal issues which affect the opportunities and the social environments for the individuals. Some of these factors include lack of adequate income as well as lack of access to affordable housing. Changes and shifts in the economy also create challenges securing employment and hence lack of adequate income to use for housing (Heerde et al., 2020). The second cause is poverty. This is where people live below the poverty line and hence they are unable to pay for housing. Homelessness is caused by a shortage of affordable, safe and stable houses. This is because as the cost of housing increases then more people will be unable to afford. This can also be caused by discrimination especially on the basis of race and sexual orientation (Fusaro et al., 2018). At the same time, system failures can also result to homelessness.
