WK4Assgn Child Abuse and Neglect.doc SOCW 6200 Child Abuse and Neglect The Case of Brandon Clinical Social Work, Walden University SOCW 6200: Human Behavior and Social Environment I Abstract Sexual abuse can have a traumatizing effect on both adults and children such as in the case of Brandon. Brandon is a twelve-year-old Caucasian male that resides with his mother and her paramour. Brandon has disclosed that he was sexually abused by his biological father between the ages of four and six resulting in his father being incarcerated. Due to the trauma Brandon has been exhibiting negative behavior such as being aggressive and having interactions with female classmates that has sexual overtones; he was engaged in therapy but was withdrawn as his mother deemed that there was no improvement in his behavior. He has stated that he feels unsafe but is unsure why and sleeps with a loaded BB gun. Brandon has expressed love for his father but disdain for what his father did to him, he has stated that he would like to sleep better, worry less and fight less with his mother. In cases such as this Social Workers need to recognize and appropriately respond to cases such as these to provide intervention that is timely and effective.
