C 121 Task 2.docx Survey of American History Task 2 A. The Constitution lead to political partisan in America. Supporters agreed that the government needed more power (Federalist) others feared that The Constitution would take away their rights, property and weaken states (Anti-Federalist). These two groups disagreed on many ideals of the Constitution, the greatest being where power belonged. The Federalist believed that division of power would protect from tyranny and the Anti- Federalist, believed that the removal of power from the states and given to a federal government would take away individual rights and promote tyranny. (Norton, 2015) The federalist wanted the Constitution to contain the Bill of Rights which protected the people and included freedom of the press and religion, trial by jury, and protection from unreasonable searches. Even with these inclusions neither side what completely satisfied. (Norton, 2015) Thomas Jefferson felt that Alexander Hamilton protected and favored the public interest of the wealthy at the expense of the agricultural people, threatening the United States. Thomas Jefferson and his supporters began calling themselves Republicans and Alexander Hamilton and his supporters began call themselves Federalist aligning themselves with the Constitution. Propaganda in the form of newspapers began taking sides and spreading the view of each political party leading to political awareness and opinions amongst Americans. (Norton, 2015) B1.
