Selected Answer: The purpose of Model Rule 7.6 is to restrict the opportunities for conflicts of interests and maintain the integrity of the attorney. A violation of the rule would be whenever the attorney engages in specific partnerships such as government legal engagements or political contributions with people in specific positions for personal or financial gain. If the attorney is to obtain any sort of agreement with a political party or government agency it should be free of any influence due to political contributions. [1] If the attorney makes or solicits a political contribution under suspicious circumstances that constitutes bribery or another crime Rule 8.4 (b) is implicated. [2] With Rule 8.4(b) the attorney will be charged with misconduct and subject to disciplinary action by the American Bar Association.
