In our law system, attorney’s have specific governing obligations to their clients. These obligations and guidelines govern aspects concerning competence, communication, confidentiality and conflict. Furthermore, an attorney must fully understand these obligations for one to be able to represent a client to his/her fullest abilities. A lawyer must first understand that he/she is a “representative of clients, an officer of the legal system and a public citizen having special responsibilities for the quality of justices.” [1] Moreover, this aspect goes towards a lawyer’s competence as he/she must understand what it means to be an attorney to be able to represent someone to the highest of standards. If one does not embrace these specifications or grasps these concepts, how could they display the competence to be able to represent someone else legally? This is adamant in the bible verse 2 Corinthians 3:5 which states “Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” [2]
