Mandating use of helmets by the federal government would decrease the statistics of injuries and deaths in citizens from motorcycle accidents. Although states can impose their own laws for their people, it is in the best interest of all Americans to be safe and protected in case of an accident. According to BMC Health (2016), after implementing a state-wide universal helmet law, there was a substantial decrease in motorcycle related injuries and fatalities. It is absurd that currently each state has its own discretion as to carry out this helmet law. Due to the fact that helmets do save lives and decrease financial strains, this solution should be appealing to a broad coalition of support from providers, insurers, and the public.
