This is believed to be a good decision on most networks because the overhead of providing the delivery guarantees and reliability that TCP offers can be costly. A popular area where UDP would more beneficial than TCP would be in the area of video and audio streaming. When it comes to IPv6, UDP was not formally updated to a newer version for IPv6, IPv6 treats UDP a little bit differently than IPv4. If UDP includes addresses from the IPv6 header in its checksum calculation, the protocol is required to be modified for use over IPv6 to include the 128-bit addresses. When the checksum is being calculated, an IPv6 pseudo-header is used to mirror the actual IPv6 header, the purpose of the pseudo-header is to verify that the data being delivered by UDP reaches its proper location.
