Benchmarks put in place keep patients safe and liability off of hospitals, but many times those benchmarks are not being met due to strain on facilities. Achieving chest pain goals help keep hospital costs down, improve patient outcomes, and improve efficiency and flow in department and facility (Sandhu, et al.,  2017). Missing these targets for patients reporting chest pain show great room for improvement and growth. Developing and implementing a new policy that is directly related to patients with chest pain and their care is critical to meeting benchmark goals. The policy proposed will help to meet benchmarks for patient experiencing chest pain, plan out implementation guidelines and will include those stakeholders invested in the facility.  Need for Policy and Practice Guidelines  Chest pain is a treatable condition if caught and intervention is performed immediately. When patients who have chest pain receive EKGs within 10 minutes, aspirin within 30 minutes and transfer to a higher level of care within 90 minutes outcomes for patients improve greatly (Ryals, 2020).
