This is the most basic aspect for healthcare in general. One of the major issues that prevents patient safety is rural medicine and outlying communities access to modern medicine. Being from Montana and working in the ER at one of three level 2 trauma centers in the state, I have seen firsthand the turmoil that the outlining communities have with the lack of primary care or any care at all. With the stoic attitude from the population here, the commute being sometimes 100+ miles, and weather, many people delay their care. This then puts them in a worse state as each minute goes by. By the time some of these patients come to us, it can be too late to help them or it may take  an incredible amount of recourses to keep them alive when in all reality, if they would have sought help right after the incident, they would have been in much better condition. This issue with patient safety and rural medicine is something that has really made me wonder what we can do better in Montana to help these people that do not live in the cities.
