The purpose is to propose a bundle test of high risk patients, in which the patient will, with their consent, be automatically tested for both HIV and HCV, instead of just HIV alone. (Cowan et al.,2018) Review of the Literature – There was not a review of literature for this article. There is research found in the Introduction portion of this article. The research was published by the CDC. It covers 8 different topics related to the subject. It covers how many individuals in the U.S. are living with HIV (2.1 million), as well as the number of individuals living with Hepatitis C (3.5 million). It addresses the similarity of high risk factors and modes of transmission, as well as the incidence of co-infection amongst these populations. It states that 25% of HIV infected individuals are co-infected with HCV, but also that 80% of HIV infected individuals that practice IV drug use also have HCV. The CDC now recommends that testing high risks patients, which can include: IV drug users, transplant or blood recipients before 1992, and healthcare/public health care workers.
