JOT2 Task1.docx    JOT2 – Task 1 Learner Analysis  Assessment Code: JOT2 Task 1    JOT2 – Task 1 Learner Analysis  Instructional Setting and Content Area  The instructional setting is a K-8 Title 1 charter school. The school is one hundred percent free lunch. The majority of the students are from a single parent household.  This is my fifth year at the school. My first three years I taught eighth grade ELA. I am now a Special Education Teacher servicing seventh and eighth graders.  All of the students on my case load receive pull out services. I work closely with the general education teachers to adapt their lesson plans to fit the goals and objectives I have written into the IEPs of my students.                                                                        The content area to be addressed is ELA, specifically essay writing.   On the state test students are required to write an argumentative and an informative essay. Each year the students score the lowest on the essay portion of the test.  Instructional Problem   Reading and writing go hand in hand and all of the students on my case load read below grade level.  When given a writing task the students are provided 2-3 reading passages. They are then given a writing prompt with a critical thinking question that requires them to provide textual evidence to support their analysis of the text.
