HRM 300 Module 5 Critical Thinking.doc My Customized Training and Development Proposal Colorado State University – Global Campus My Customized Training and Development Proposal The Importance of Training Training as an HR function can be defined as a learning experience for employees to help facilitate the establishment and improvement of behaviors that are necessary for job success (DeCenzo & Verhulst, 2019). Training is initiated for a myriad of reasons, not exclusively to prepare new employees. Establishing a training protocol to determine eligibility for succession planning and to pilot new systems or introduce new topics are other valid reasons for employee training. While employee training inevitably provides the employee with benefits, there are also substantial advantages to the company when it comes to providing comprehensive employee training. One of these advantages is that of employee retention, which provides cost savings by eliminating the need to hire new staff. In 2016, the cost of a new hire was around $30,000, and ongoing employee training was about $1,500, which with inflation, puts the price of a new hire to roughly $32,263.43 and ongoing training at $1,613.17 (Maclaren, 2016). This cost analysis demonstrates the return on investment by retaining staff and putting forth the cost-effective effort of continuing employee training. Additionally, organizations that prioritize employee training see increased productivity levels and the ability to create their ideal employee/future leaders
