C456.Task1.docx Western Governors University Thesis Statement: Research shows that recess is important to children because they are subjected to physical activity outside of the classroom, they can enhance their social skills and are able to clear their minds to regain focus. Annotated Bibliography Murray, R. & Ramstetter, C. (2013, January 1). The Crucial Role of Recess in School. American Academy of Pediatrics, 131(1). Retrieved from http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/131/1/183 This article discusses the cognitive, social and physical benefits of recess in schools. The cognitive benefits allow children to be able to refocus in the classroom and to diminish stress and distractions with taking a recess break. Through recess, children also learn communication skills when engaging with other students which benefits them socially. Physical activity is beneficial as well because children can move around through playing during these recess breaks rather than sitting at a desk all day. Dr. Robert Murray has his MD through Indiana University School of Medicine and served on the American Academy of Pediatrics Council for 10 years. Dr. Catherine Ramstetter has a Ph.D. through University of Cincinnati. This article is credible to my thesis because it states the benefits of recess in school for students. Brooks, A.
