Interview Techniques  There were four interview techniques used in questioning the patients social determinants of health. They included: introducing myself to the patient, explaining my role in interviewing and assessment of the patient, and allowing the patient to introduce himself to me and finding out how he would like me to address him. Second, it is important to host the interview in a quiet, private, and comfortable setting where the patient feels comfortable and safe. I tried to by minimizing distractions or interruptions in hopes for a successful interview.  Third, since these questions can be a bit personal; using a non-verbal, face to face format approach in a non-threatening way would be ideal. Start by observing the patients expression, body language, posture, and use direct eye contact when discussing.  Lastly, using open ended questions with the patient will allow the patient to answer more completely and respond honestly without prompting from myself or another clinician.    High quality, patient-clinician communication has been shown to improve patient outcomes, decrease symptoms, improve functional status, reduce litigation and decrease errors (Bickley, 2016).   A1a.
