The process for PCT is to create a supportive environment that allows the client to function freely allowing the client to tailor their own therapy process through intentional use of the client™s frame of reference and resources (Cornelius-White, 2002). The goal for this therapy is to facilitate the client™s journey toward full potential (Murdock, 2017). Rogers believed that the therapeutic relationship would help lead the client to their own insights creating life changes with three necessary and sufficient core conditions congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding (Murdock, 2017). Effective approach Creating a therapeutic environment that is comfortable, non-judgmental, and empathetic requires two key elements which are making sure it is a non-directive approach and emphasizing unconditional positive regard (Cherry, 2020). For this approach to be effective the therapist and client are considered equals.
