My_Philosphy_of_Nursing.docx My Philosphy of Nursing Chamberlain University NR501-Theoretical Basis for Advanced Nursing Practice My Philosphy of Nursing What Nursing Means to Me My philosophy of nursing is one which I have kept for my 16 years of nursing, and that is to provide compassionate, holistic, patient-centered and culturallycompetent care for all patients that I care for regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status. I thrive each day, and with each patient encounter to provide quality patient care. I also recognize that nursing is ever-changing, everevolving, and to remain current in practice, I know that continued education is very important. Nursing Theory that Guides My Practice With so many nursing theories, it may be difficult to identify with just one. I do, for most of my career, identify with two nursing theorists and their theories. The first one is Hendersons Definition of Nursing Theory which places more focus on how nurses can help patients increase their independence because of each patients basic human needs. I identify with her theory because it mainly focuses on the activities that we as nurses do to promote health and wellness in our patient population. Hendersons nursing model provides a more “patient-centered and holistic approach†to care (Lucier, 2018). In her model, she identifies 14 basic needs of the patient such as breathing, sleep and rest, worship and elimination, all of which incorporate some physiological, spiritual or devel
