In the juvenile justice system, some challenges they face are youth being held in detention centers until they are transferred to jail or prison to finish serving their time. Lack of funding to get the proper counseling, rehabilitation for the juvenile delinquents. Overcrowded facilities for these juveniles don™t give them enough time and evaluation to consider what is best for the individual because caseworkers are overloaded with more than one case. Also, you have youth/teens who have mental problems and need attention like talking to a counselor or someone who can get inside their head to see what the problem really is that causes them to act out the way they do. Some teens battle with broken families, lack of attention in their homes or are runaways. Teens that have been abused and have anger issues tend to lash out or misbehave. Should teens be treated as adults? It depends on the crime that is being committed I would say their minds are not developed enough to really grasp the severity putting a 13-18 year old in prison or jail is going to hinder that development.
