You will write a two page paper comparing the 1968 race riots in Wilmington DE to any Black Lives Matter protest (after 2014) in which you compare how a newspaper covered a race riot in the 1960s with how newspaper now cover a Black Lives Matter protest. I have attached the Kerner Report, the Wilmington newspaper, and a more detailed guideline of what I am looking for.
====
This year is the 50th anniversary of the report of the National Advisory Council on Civil Rights, usually referred to as the Kerner Commission Report. In recognition of this anniversary (and the fact that February is Black History Month), for this essay, you will need to start by finding two newspaper articles.
The first newspaper article should be from the 1960s about a race riot that occurred in your home town (ask your parents or grandparents). If there were no race riots in your own home town, you may print a hard copy of a newspaper article about the 1968 race riot in Wilmington (one of the most heavily reported ever in the North-Eastern Region).
The second newspaper article should be about a Black Lives Matter protest march or demonstration in any city in the United States, any time from 2014 to the present. Take a look at the Kerner Commission Report itself, and then write a brief essay (two-page max, double-spaced, typed) in which you compare how a newspaper covered a race riot in the 1960s with how a newspaper covered a Black Lives Matter protest.
Grammar, Spelling and Structure will account for 50% of you grade. While the other half will be based on how well how you present your argument and compare both newspapers.
