The high acuity of patients and high patient volume repeatedly exposes nurses to stress and puts them at risk for compassion fatigue. As a previous ED technician and now currently an Admissions nurse in the ED, I have witnessed first-hand the amount of stress that takes a toll on nurses. As time goes on, this stress has the potential of turning into compassion fatigue.
