It was collectively established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Standards Organization (ISO). The EDI allows trading partners to use electronic transactions opposed to using paper when conducting business. Supply chain members are linked via the EDI for processing transactions. When transactions are done electronically it promotes a much quicker access to information, customer service, decrease the level of paperwork involved with transactions, increase communication and productivity, while expediting tracking, billing, and cost.
