Job design and analysis Week 4 Discussion 1

For one to be able to collect information on jobs, there are some methods that can be used to make sure that the right information has been collected.  These methods can be divided into observation, questionnaire and other methods. For observation, one can decide to use direct observation where one can analyze the job for the purpose of observing and making records of behaviors or events or activities or tasks or duties when something is happening at a particular time. Apart from direct observation, one can decide to use work methods analysis as a form of observation (Flynn, Mathis, & Jackson, 2007). This type of analysis on work methods can be applied in description of manual and repeated manufacturing jobs, for instance, jobs of assembly line. Such analysis on work methods consists of analysis of time, motion study and micro-motion. The last category on observation is Critical incident technique (CIT model). This type of job analysis is applicable to behaviors that are applicable to working, which are meant to classify performance into the categories of either good or bad.
