            AIDS is the common acronym for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.  This disease of the immune system is caused by an infection, that destroys white blood cells and it is transmitted through the blood or bodily secretions such as semen (Dictionary.com 2011).  Many demographic communities are affected by AIDS.  This health care crisis has had a major impact on all societies in the United States.  This preventable and incurable disease has affected every household in the United States whether directly or indirectly.

The Targeted Population

            This horrific disease knows no bounds and has no specific target population but is the leading cause of death for young adults ages 25 to 44.

            It is estimated by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) that there is over 1 million people in the United States living with AIDS today( Center for Disease Control, 2010).
