Risk Factors that Could Predispose Anna to the Development of Cancer
I. Positive family history of breast cancer
There is an increased chance of getting breast, ovarian, uterine, or colorectal cancers if you have a family history of these diseases (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2014). This is due to the possibility of family members sharing surroundings, behaviors, and genes that may affect the risk of developing cancer. According to Brewer et al. (2017), there is a significant risk associated with a family history of breast cancer. Women who have breast cancer in their first-degree family are two times more likely to have the disease, and the risk goes higher for those whose first-degree relatives were diagnosed before age 50 than after. Anna’s positive family history of breast cancer puts her at risk of developing cancer as her grandmother and mother have also received breast cancer treatment.
