I choose this problem because a nuclear meltdown has the capability to affect millions of people extremely fast. After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster nine years ago, it revealed the magnitude of devastation that could occur. This plan to aid in the protection of the public, to allow for ease of evacuation to safety, to aid in the quick determination of area hospitals, and to determine possible water contamination. The spatial problem that will be solved is œWhat is the emergency response plan in the event of a meltdown at the nuclear power plant? and œWhere are the bodies of water located at different radiuses from the epicenter?. These questions are important to understand the locations of the surrounding people and where they might need to go in an emergency. Spatial techniques can be used to help determine the areas that would be most impacted. They also would serve to allow for the quick locating of many important locations. Some of these locations would be hospitals, safe zones, and evacuation locations. Three specific zones that will be addressed to identify specific safety locations and hazardous locations. Creating a map with hospitals clearly marked with their capacity levels will be helpful to determine where emergency response needs to go.
