HUM 100 Module_Four_Response.docx HUM 100 Module Four Short Response       After reading the first chapter of the book, The Statue of Liberty: A Transatlantic Story, it left me slightly confused and frustrated. I had to reread the chapter four times to have a slight sense of what discussion may have taken place between Laboulaye and Bartholdi. I believe I had difficulty with this because the organization of the writing is poor as it jumps around and talks about multiple subjects and stories at once. From what I understand, Laboulaye admired the United States and Abraham Lincoln. One example includes the changes in slavery the United States made. Both Laboulaye and Bartholdi wanted to send this statue as a symbol of unity and to celebrate the United States' independence. Going into this, I would have been considered ignorant of the history behind the Statue of Liberty. By reading the articles provided, I realize how much work, effort, and time went into this work of art and symbol of political history, from its design influences to the collaborative ideas that were pulled together from so many great minds. I have a newfound respect for the artifact and its creators. As a reminder, I selected Tutankhamun™s sarcophagus as my artifact of interest. While acknowledging the creator™s purpose of King Tutankhamun™s sarcophagus, to preserve his body for the afterlife, I question why his coffin was second-hand and not made specifically for him at his time of burial.
