She enlightens her audience and uses it to help her become a more effective author without "proving" that she knows English.  She first realizes how important it is to include her "mother tongue" in her writing while she is giving a speech about her book in her mother's presence.   The interpretation of Amy Tan's "mother tongue" article included her assertion that the ability to communicate in a fluent language leads to the wrong impression or perception of people. Amy Tan wrote this article to draw attention to individuals' prejudices and inequalities when they cannot speak fluent English. It is only by drawing attention to the problem that one can shed light on the solution. After repeated analysis of the article, the evidence is harrowing; for example, a line from the article reads,"You should know that my mother's expressive command of English conceals how much she actually understands." on page two. This statement by Amy Tan shows a glimpse into the fact that Amy Tan believes that her mother's ability to speak fluent English is not an indication of what she understands. Another example on the second page in the third paragraph, Amy Tan, states, "I think her English reflects the quality of what she had to say because she expressed
