HU 250 Humanities Cultural Revolution Purdue University Global HU 250-08: Humanities and Culture Cultural Revolution Cultural revolutions change the hearts of people as well as the habits of a particular society.They can come in different forms such as music, film or even wars or conflicts. These events trigger something in society that provokes change different thought processes. I interviewed two different people on two very different culture revolution that they experienced in their lifetime and how it has had a lasting impact upon them. The first person I interviewed was Dan Becker, my father in law, on the cultural revolution stemming from rock music in the 1970s. The second is Tom Myers, a friend of mine that served in the Navy with me, on the impact of the September 11th terrorist attacks. I chose to interview Becker due to a mutual interest in classic rock music from a by gone era. I asked him what album or artist really connected with him. He shared that Pink Floyds 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon was that album. Becker said “I put on the record and my headphones and listened to both sides. When it was done all, I could say is wow.†Pink Floyds psychedelic rock had messages that commentated on the growing political unrest. The new style of music which still influences musicians today resonated with his generation and it was something they could grasp and identify with.
