Some of these effects are shown around the world with the changes in air and ocean temperatures increasing, sea levels having risen, glaciers and ice coverage in the artic showing significant melting, the weather brining an increase in natural disaster, and the ozone layer having significantly reduced in size (Frumkin, Hess, Luber, Malilay & McGeehin, 2008). In the United States specifically, the average temperature has increased by 1.9*F since 1895, floods have increased in the Northeast and Midwest, extreme precipitation has increased across the nation however specifically in the Northeast and Midwest, category 4 and 5 hurricanes have become more frequent with longer durations, sea level in parts of the Gulf Coast and along the Mid-Atlantic Ocean have increased by almost 8 inches in 50 years, drought has increase in the West, heat waves have increased intensity and frequency in the West, and wildfires have been starting earlier in the season and lasting later into the fall leading to an increase in burn acreage in the West (USGCRP, 2016). These things tell us that climate change is real, and the Earth is suffering.
