Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, encouraged women to choose nursing as a profession. In the early years of the practice, nurses were able to take care of sick family members and wounded soldiers without any formal training and skills. In 1850, during the Crimean War, Florence Nightingale and her followers served the military to take care of wounded soldiers, and they impressed on the public to accept the Nursing profession. Florence Nightingale then began offering formal training to teach the skills necessary for nursing practice.  Today, the nursing profession has changed significantly after the effort and dedicated work of nurses paved the way for contemporary nursing.
