The traditional way was not getting police to solve crime, lessen use of force issues, and lessen the deficit of trust with the community. The change was to move from traditional police environment to a community-based environment. The benefits will assist in crime solving, through problem solving, positive relations and partnerships, prevention emphasis in a particular area, and through citizen input. The main benefit of community based policing is that it takes into account the input from citizens. Citizen input is like a person going to a restaurant, ordering off the menu, and expecting the food to match the description. The citizen is the customer and the police are the waiters or the serving staff, if the serving staff does not know what the customer wants or likes how will they serve them or satisfy them. Citizen input is important in many ways, imaging you are patrolling a heavily Asian dominated neighborhood but you cannot communicate with them and they never communicate with you.
