It is because of this that issues and struggles that these individuals face are often misunderstood by family, friends, and co-workers. In this paper we will be looking at the Carter family and the struggles that they are facing as a multiracial family. Overview on the Carter Family The Carters are a mixed-race middle-class family who live in a Riverbend City neighborhood. Sarah, the mother and wife is an African- American, Raymond the father and husband to Sarah is of Scots-Irish decent, and their son James has recently begun his 10th grade year of high school. James has always been a student who has taken pride in his schoolwork, achieving top grades in elementary and middle school. However recently, Sarah and Raymond have had several meetings with James teachers to discuss his poor grades. Not only is James at a risk of failing three of his classes, but he has also been coming home smelling of alcohol and marijuana (which he denies having used).
