This helped to push safety and the quality initiative. The main purpose of this database is to “provide comparative data to health care organizations to support QI activities and to develop national data to better understand the link between nurse staffing and patient outcomes†(Cherry & Jacob, 2008.) The Nursing Quality Indicators include structure, process and outcome (Cherry & Jacob, 2008). In the scenario provided, the first National Quality Indicator that would guide the nurse in this situation would be process. The process of safely restraining a patient is violated in this scenario. The patient does not appear to be one who would qualify for needing restraints. Mr. J is lucid and answers questions appropriately. Mr. J is not currently at risk of hurting himself or tampering with necessary medical equipment. If the nurse was worried about the patient trying to get out of bed on his own, the nurse could have utilized a bed alarm. This would allow the nursing staff to hear the alarm if Mr. J attempted to get out of bed without help. Due to the redness on Mr. Js back, it doesnt appear that the medical staff is checking his skin integrity as frequently as necessary, or performing turning as indicated
