Due to the rise in CLABSI rates over the past year within the critical care areas, the team will be implemented in the intensive care unit (ICU) and cardiac care unit (CCU) with future expansion facility-wide. The most important findings of this project are that a dedicated VAT reduces CLABSI incidences and rates as well as improves the quality of care and patient satisfaction while decreasing overall expenses. Introduction This capstone project addresses the need to decrease the CLABSI rate by implementing a dedicated VAT Implementing to insert, maintain, and educate central lines. The target population for this project is patients in the ICU and CCU requiring central line placement and management at BSWI, which is a 293 licensed bed facility in Irving, Texas. Major components of the VAT team will include two registered nurses, an ultrasound machine, and supplies such as IV catheters, midline catheters, and peripherally inserted central catheters.
